Alpaca Ankle Socks

Alpaca so far is the best fiber to knit with. It has just enough give to make knitting complicated stitches relatively easy, and it felt like it has a bit of a slip that makes knitting for me easier. Plus, it’s so wonderfully soft. Alpaca socks don’t itch me quite like the wool ones have. Must knit more alpaca!
Ankle socks are much quicker and more fun to knit. Unless the cuff of a sock has a fun detailing, it really just prolongs things doing a longer cuff. Plus, I like wearing ankle socks more, so I really should knit more.
What Have I Learned?
This alpaca doesn’t seem to have the stretch that the wool did, so it’s important to knit with that in mind. I had to knit the foot a few rows longer than I might have because the sock felt tight if I didn’t. Cramped toes are no fun. I also thought of another way to keep my toes from being cramped in the future. I think it might be a good idea to knit the decreases on the toe uneven, so that the toe point tilts to the side.
This may accomodate for the real shape of my foot, which doesn’t come to an even point.
At this point I’ve knit my third pair of socks, and I feel more and more like I need the pattern less and less. It will be great when/if I can knit a sock almost entirely without a pattern.
