Handspun Wall Hanging

Progress

handspun-wall-hanging-complete.jpgThis was knit into a simple stockinette square, with garter stitch edges to prevent it from curling. It has two knitting needles, one on the bottom and one on the top, inserted into some of the stitches horizontally. It is meant to be a wall hanging that samples of my handspun will be tied to, as a record of my progress. The chord that was used for hanging the piece is the same handspun yarn undyed.
Originally the fiber was a natural greyish white, and it was dyed once spun up. The first attempt was to get a golden yellow color, but that turned out greenish. The second over-dye resulted in a slightly washed out mauve which looks much better.

What Have I Learned?

Dying non-white natural wool can be tricky when you’re trying to get just the right color.

Blocking is helpful, even with small projects. It is especially helpful with handspun that varies greatly in thickness throughout.
