Luxurious Pouch/Purse

Progress

DSCF0022.JPGI had an idea to create a purse that could also be a belt pouch of sorts to hang on your hip. Sometimes when you wear a dress or nice shirt you don’t want to wear a purse that hangs over your whole body. This was meant to adjust at the strap so you can wear it like a normal purse, or pull it tighter to hang on your hips. It’s lined in a silk toil fabric, with a twisted stitch design on the front.

greenpurse1.JPGThe pocket of the purse was knit in the round, and half the stitches were bound off before continuing to the closing flap. I really enjoyed knitting this because the yarn was very soft, the color was amazing, and the finished project was largely what I expected. I have only one complaint of the yarn, that it broke two times while I was doing the most difficult part. The slightly uneven texture in the yarn was perfect for this.

finished-pouch-purse3.jpgI must keep in mind for the future to keep handsewing to a minimum in my knitting. While there wasn’t a whole lot to sew in this project, it prevented me from completing it very quickly. I stalled towards the end because I didn’t want to do the sewing. I’m very glad I did though, because the lining adds just the right finishing touch!

What Have I Learned?

greenpurse4.JPGI learned a lot about twisted stitches, and sliped stitch work. I think it was one more step toward cables, but a bit easier. It was difficult to figure out at first, but once I learned to trust the pattern I eventually was able to do it without reading the instructions every time. Now that I’ve learned the more complicated stitches, I want more!!

finished-pouch-purse1.jpgBlocking can sometimes make a world of a difference. The definition in the twisted stitches on the front really came out after washing and blocking.
