One Row Handspun Handdyed Scarf

Progress

handspun-onerow-scarf.jpgThe pattern used for this scarf was perfect for a handspun yarn, and all its unevenness. It created a slightly flat rib, with lots of texture and stretch. The yarn I spun was a bit overtwisted in some places, which added to the unevenness. It was hand-dyed using Jacquard acid dyes with what is called “Sapphire Blue”.

It felt while knitting this like I was being reminded of my spinning progress. The beginning of the skein was very uneven, but consistently so. Towards about the 2/3rd mark it started getting consistently thinner, which created a thin spot in the knitting. Towards the end of the skein it evened out to the width I wanted, with fewer extremes between the thick and thin.

What Have I Learned

My spinning is a bit over-twisted, and it helps to get it more even when keeping a sample spun nearby to occasionally test the twist. Also, the drop spindle that I was using is incredibly overalanced, which makes things more difficult.

This is a great pattern for handspun yarn!
