Malabrigio Heaven

August 23rd, 2006

malabrigioheaven.jpgApparently this week is Pick-Up-Abandoned-Projects Week. I decided that I wanted to work some more on the Malabrigio Afghan, so I started with the orange that I bought for it. So far I’ve only got blue, orange, and purple (please don’t ask the color names), although eventually I plan to accrue quite a collection to create this colorful afghan.

This stuff is still as soft and heavenly as I remembered it.

Square 1I hate staring at that picture, because it emphasizes the uneven Vs that I detest in my knitting. I don’t think I can get rid of them without knitting looser(?). I’ve tried to read up and figure out how to get rid of them in your knitting, but it seems everywhere I read people say it usually is due to the yarn. Ha! No matter what yarn I use I get those stupid |/ shaped Vs.

My coworker’s partner makes these. He brought one in the other day and I thought it was cute. Thought I’d pass it along :) :

That’s great! It reminds me of some of the other silly knitted things I’ve seen, such as “Nautie” I think it’s called, and the uterus.

The uneven V’s in stockinette happen when working with one-ply yarn. It probably has to do with the twist in the yarn only going one way, so it pulls a little more on one side. Go look up close at some of the pics in Debbie Stoller’s Stitch ‘n’ Bitch books (esp. the Lamb’s Pride bulky pieces) and you’ll see it’s there too. Knitting more loosely won’t make it go away. It’s not you! If you try a yarn with 2 or more plies, this should even out. But honestly, your knitting is very even…so why fret it?
